Read It, Learn It, Live it, Share It
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves." – Romans 12:9-10
Happy Valentines Day.
Today is the day we all should stop and take a moment to recognize others with a kind word and sentiment of love. We are all called to love one another; which, if you are living in the 21st century (hint: you are), is often times more difficult to do than to say. We all have at times muttered the cliché; ‘Love You Too’ in response to someone’s statement of affection towards us. Can you honestly say that it was sincere though?
These 3 simple words – I Love You – have been known to change the outcome of someone’s life; to encourage another to keep going, to allow someone to feel needed or cared for. Since the beginning of time we have devised other means to demonstrate our care for others, but it all comes back to the basic desire to be loved. We need to know that we are not alone in this world and that we mean something to others. These words though have been reserved to share with that special someone, or member of the family or closest friend. I certainly have not been approached on the street by a random stranger with a greeting “I Love You.” Admit it, that would be awkward.
Loving others is a mandate from God the Father. It’s not an option, it’s an attitude and an acceptance that God’s love is ever present to every person equally. As we draw nearer to Him our ability to love other’s increases. Despite the circumstances that exist between us and another individual at any given moment, and the inherent reservations we have to share love with others, seeing them with His eyes changes our perception. God’s love is not an emotion as our love is. His love is a state of being, an immutable presence that is equally available to all mankind.
Through the life, death and resurrection of His Son – Jesus Christ – He has given the most precious gift to each of us. The gift of eternal life, that no one should perish, but everyone would come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Jesus Christ blood was spilled as the sacrifice for each and every one of us, not for some, but for all. If His blood is not sufficient to cover the worst, most heinous of sins; than it is not sufficient to cover any of the sins of mankind. It’s one or the other, there is no grading scale as to what is covered by the sacrifice and what is not. This depth of love that God has offered to you and I, is equally available to every human that has ever walked this earth. The question comes down to our ability to accept it and share it with others.
That is my Valentines gift for you today – too know that God loves you and accepts you\
