Jesus – Words from the Cross
Read it,
Learn It, Live It, Share It
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are
doing.”– Luke 23:32
In 24 hours Jesus life went from peace and love for his disciples, to chaos and
sacrifice. In the Garden of Gethsemane
on Thursday night, Jesus was praying.
His prayer is captured in Matthew 26:36-46 – “Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but thy will be done.” In his perfect timing Christ prepared himself
with the father before going into the battle with Satan. Make no mistake this was a battle with Satan
over the souls of every man, woman and child for all time. Satan knew it and Christ knew it.
The people that didn’t know it were those onlookers. They were bystanders and unknowing
participants in the greatest battle to this day. Used by Satan to crush the Christ, and used
by God to usher the world into the a plan of salvation. For as much as Jesus Christ knew this was God’s
plan, he must have wanted a different path.
The scourging, beatings, bondage, suffering, ridicule, mocking and
hatred that mankind poured out on the Savior of the world that night was unbelievable.
As Christ hung there upon the cross, the nails causing his
hands to convulse, his body bruised, battered, torn and bloodied, his heart was
crying out for the lives of those who persecuted him. His compassion, his love and his purpose was
still coming to fruition and his spirit must have longed to stay with them,
help them and nurture them. Despite
their iniquities, transgressions and evil ways; his love for them was undying,
right up to the point of his own death.
Four of Jesus comments from the cross were targeted toward his Father in
heaven. His final plea for the souls of
those he was leaving behind to be reconciled, forgiven and accepted into
eternity.
Jesus Christ never stopped loving mankind, it is mankind that
turned our back on Jesus Christ. Look at
your life and realize that there is nothing that you have done that is not
washed away by his death and resurrection.
He carried your sins to that cross before you ever committed them. I believe Jesus first words from the cross
were not specifically for those on Golgotha that day, but they were for all
mankind forever more. Your sins have
been forgiven, if you are willing to accept it.
