“ Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.” – James 5:7
One of the most known verses in the entire New Testament is from 1 Corinthians 13:4 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ….” I once had a teacher tell me to replace the word “Love” and the word “It” with the word God. The ultimate truth is revealed. God is a patient Creator and Father. We are children trying His patience with our unrighteousness and obstinate behavior. We lack the patience to let God work through us. How many times have we prayed for something and after not seeing it revealed within a day took action ourselves to make it happen. I suffer with this problem. I’ve always been the one who lacks patience in my family.
God’s word is truth, and His promises are secure. You realize that God’s promises to Abraham, to Moses, to Noah, to David, to Mary, to Joseph and so on and so on all come to fruition. God’s promise to you and I is that we are forgiven through Christ Jesus and He will return one day to take us home. Why would this promise not be kept? Abraham waited 25 years before the heir was born – Isaac. Moses never set foot in the promised land and died before he crossed over the Jordon river, yet Israel remains to this day. Noah was obedient and was spared during the great flood. We have a rainbow today as a testament to God’s promise to Noah. King David ruled over lands and tribes and established God’s Kingdom amongst His people. Mary and Joseph were promised that their child would rule forever more.
God is patient and takes His own time to make things work perfectly. Since the original sin of mankind in the garden, God has been on a journey to draw mankind back to Himself. Through Jesus Christ, He made a way for that to become real. His blood become the atonement for mankind’s sin, and His resurrection became our pathway to heaven through the Son of God directly. We must likewise be patient and consistent in our faith and following of Jesus Christ. Hold firm to this promise from God the Father, and realize that in His perfect time His plan will be put into motion once again.
ACTION: Have you made promises to your children or family that you were unable to keep? Most of us have, despite how hard we have tried to keep them. God has never broken a promise to His children. His word is truth and from it we can draw righteousness. Think back on the things God has given you over your life and realize that in these little things He has kept His promise to prosper you and bring you peace.
