A Different Perspective

Read It, Learn It, Live It, Share It

"Your eyes will see the king in His beauty and view a land that stretches afar. "   - Isaiah 33:17

It was well before day-break when the van pulled up. We climbed in with some trepidation but significantly more excitement. The soft hue from the dashboard lights combined with drivers dry sense of humor assured me that today was anything but ordinary for me and my wife, Lisa. We made our first stop and it was to fuel up for the ride. After blueberry muffins and oranges we piled back into the van with 8 of our new best friends.

The sky was still pitch black when the van came to it's final destination. We piled out and suddenly realized we were underprepared for the climate change. From the baseline of 78 degrees in the city to the frigid mountain temperature of 31 degrees. Most everyone else on the mountain trek had made the same mistake as I did and was seriously under-dressed for the morning's events. The top of the volcano where we had all gathered that morning was just shy of 10,000 feet above sea level. We were spread out in small groups cuddling under blankets, all facing the Eastern sky. The morning was perfect with a low hanging cloud cover.

Then the most breathtaking event happened. For the next 10 minutes the crowd atop Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii were given an amazing display of colors, light, and pure beauty as the sun rose in the East. The thing about sunrise at Haleakala that makes it special is that it is so unbelievably close to heaven. If you've ever been on an international flight at day-break it comes close. The viewing platforms on Haleakala are above the clouds, making sunrise spectacular as you see the silver lining of sun first make it's way across the Eastern horizon. Then you begin to see hues of orange, red and yellow painted across the lower 1/3 of the sky. Finally you experience a Sunrise from the vantage point of angels and our heavenly Father.

The blend between bright reds, purples, blues, pinks and the midnight black of the day before all blended together, remind us just how much God loves you to give you this masterpiece of artwork every day. The experience of His majesty and beauty all around us in the rain, the sun, the moon and the stars. As the light begins to expand through the darkness and the black fades away we are reminded that Jesus is the light of the world and with our eyes cast upon Him, we will see the life from the perspective of the Father. As trouble and temptation bring darkness upon our life, the light is quick to steer you clear of the situation. Just as the silver lining of every sunrise on Haleakala is spectacular, so is the "Son"rise that is given to you every morning when you seek Him first.
