It’s a Daily Choice

Read It, Learn It, Live It, Share It with your friends

"They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness."  – 2 Peter 2:15

There are days when I wake up in the morning filled with the Holy Spirit and ready to take on the world with a passion for Christ that is unstoppable.  Then there are the days when I wake up and look in the mirror, only to see the reflection of a man struggling to understand why God tolerates our wickedness.  The selfishness seeps through and the pride overcomes the humility that dwells within my spirit.  In time, conviction sets in and the Holy Spirit sets my feet back on the path of righteousness where I belong.  It’s a daily choice we have to make, and it is so easy to simply throw up one’s hands and forfeit the game for an easier life, but that’s not who we are called to be.  We are called to be overcomers, to strengthen our trust and faith in the One who gave us the freedom we so cherish.  It’s easy to get lost and frustrated trying to figure out God’s ways and understand the mysteries that only He and the Son understand.  But, I advise you that it is a futile exercise.

Trials, tribulation and hardship will come to each of us.  We will struggle with our faith, and question His plans in our life.  It’s important to remember that God is sovereign and owes us no explanation.  If you look at society in general, you will find those that have become impatient with God’s timing and have taken it upon themselves to control their destiny.  Many, having been raised in Christian families and the church, still have a rebellious spirit within that demands control over life.  Pursuing fame and success in the eyes of mankind, rather than glorifying God has become their mantra.  In doing so, they have walked away from His plan and purpose in life.  Many pursue money, many pursue pleasures, many pursue self-interests in a rebellion against what is known as purity, holiness and righteous.  Perhaps we aren’t kneeling and praying to the god of Balaam, per se`, but we are pushing God to the side in many ways to pursue our own interests in life.  Is there a difference?

We are His children, called by His name to a life of righteousness.  We are asked to trust in Him and through faith lean on His holiness for our strength and comfort.  We must accept that God is sovereign and will, in His timing, bring all things to justice.  We believe that He has provided for us a way of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ and that through Him we are redeemed and made holy and righteous.  There is nothing we can do to cleanse our hearts and minds to be accepted, it is only through Jesus Christ blood.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we read,
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” , focus on the part that says “…turn from their wicked ways…”   This is a choice you have to make every day, for the enemy will not cease to lead you down the path of unrighteousness.  Make today one of those days where you stand next to the armies of the Lord and lift up His holy name to take on the challenges of the day.
