1-2-3 Close Your Eyes and Fall

Read it, Learn it, Live it, Share it

"Do what is right as a sacrifice to the Lord and trust in the Lord."      – Psalm 4:5

What is trust based on?  It is a common word that you have used throughout your life.  But, what is at the very core of the definition?  I’m sure you remember the game of trust you played as a child which required that you close your eyes and fall backward into the hands of a friend.  Certainly this was a game of trust, but it required feelings between the faller and the catcher.  Without a strong emotional tie to the other, this game doesn’t exist.  Even in it’s most shallow form, for one individual to prevent the other from harm requires some level of caring for the falling person.  These feelings regardless of the depth are feelings based on love for one another.

I propose that the first requirement for trust to take place between two people is an inherent love for each other.  The same is true for the trust that we place in the Lord.  For us to fully come to a point where we can trust that He will carry us, requires that we first come to an understanding that He loves us.  Those that refuse to trust in the Lord for their salvation really suffer from an inability to accept that He loves them.  Be it something in their past that has scarred their ability to accept love or whether someone they have trusted has hurt them in one way or another, love escapes their grasp.  These individuals often have a problem truly loving others.  This in turn breaks their ability to accept love from others, including the Creator of the World.

God’s message through His son Jesus Christ was a message of love for mankind.  A love that could not be achieved through words, promises or the law.  The ultimate sacrifice of His son’s life for the redemption of all man’s sins is the deepest expression of love the He could give.  The reason for His gift is His love for you and His desire for you to have eternal life in His kingdom.  This love requires that man trust Him and His divinity.
