Move that Mountain

Read It, Learn It, Live It, Share It with your friends

“The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. ”

–John 4:50-51

It took us nearly 18 hours by car to drive across the snow covered highways.  Christmas came and went that year, and at this moment those thoughts had become distant memories.  The doctor had told us that he would not be able to perform the surgery she required, but there was a man in Iowa who could, the man who had perfected the delicate procedure on correcting spinal stenosis in children.  Without hesitation we contacted this surgeon to schedule an appointment and the after several weeks we were now on our way to see him.  Samantha, our third child, had a rare case of spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal column) from birth that would have caused any number of complications, even full paralysis, as she grew and her spinal cord became more constricted.  As parents, we go to any extreme necessary when the safety and life of our children are at risk, and this was no exception.
After 18 months of evaluation and many trips back and forth from Houston to Iowa City, Dr. Menezes performed surgery on our little girl’s spine and brain stem.  For weeks leading up to and during the 13 hour surgery, prayers were lifted up by friends and family all over the world, resulting in an amazing example of God’s hand at work, through Dr. Menezes. The surgery went exceptionally well and within 5 months Samantha no longer needed a neck brace of any kind (this is normally an 18 month recovery).  Samantha is now 9 and amazingly wonderful and filled with the joys of playing softball, running track and dancing around the house.

God Almighty is a God of miracles.  Everyday, all around you, miracles are taking place and lives are being saved.  We read the biblical truths of miracles Jesus performed with the authority of God, the Father, and then we look at today’s world and struggle to see them.  It’s hard to have a faith filled belief when so many voices in this world will tell you it’s impossible.  I continue to draw on God’s promise to us in Matthew 19:26, And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.  Do not take lightly the grace and mercy of our Lord demonstrated through the very life that we have and the opportunity we have been given for life eternal.

What we face in this world is challenging, but we are empowered and strengthened by a God that has overcome this world.  His strength is available in you, but you must have unquestionable faith and belief that He will do what He says He will do.  Quit looking for the excuses as to why you cannot do something, and look to the Creator of all things for His guidance on how you can do it.  If you face health issues, financial issues, family issues or addictions God is with you and ready to answer your faithful, earnest plea for help.  Ask for the miracle and you just might get it, don’t ask and I’m quite certain you won’t.
