The Strength Within

Read It, Learn It, Live It, Share It
“My son, keep my words, And treasure my commandments within you." – Proverbs 7:1

Are you tempted this day?  The only answer is Yes.  For you see, be it temptation from money, possessions, work, arrogance, selfishness or pride; we are all tempted.  Perhaps you are tempted from food, alcohol, drugs, pornography or sexual promiscuity; it can be overwhelming at times.  Face it folks, we are all weak when we try to stand up against the wickedness in this world on our own.  Where our heart and spirit are strong and willing to do the right thing, our flesh is of this world and finds no harm in “dabbling” where we ought not to dabble.  We often times will justify the simplest little temptation as non-harmful; under the pretense that it doesn’t impact anyone else, and after all this is My Life.  And therein lies the fundamental problem with giving in to temptations.

You know right from wrong; good from evil and what will harm your life or those around you.  It’s not for lack of knowledge that we succumb to the indulgence in temporary pleasures, but rather for lack of discipline and desire to serve God Almighty.  Often times, our head is focused on our life, and not the life that He has planned for us.  When we become inward focused it is very easy to give in to the temptations that separate us from His Kingdom and glory.  This is a dangerous position to be in, where we are choosing to put aside His grace and pursue our desires instead.

We know that this is not a new problem and that even the Disciples and Apostles struggled with temptations.  Satan has a plan to convince each of us that we don’t need God, and that He is only holding us back.  Satan will use your passion and desires to separate you from God’s Kingdom and battle you 1 on 1 within your mind.  That is where the fight is taking place.  Certainly, I believe in spiritual warfare and realize it is taking place all around us all the time, but it is made very real within my mind and yours as we look to pursue the acceptance from mankind at the expense of accepting the grace of our Savior.  Slowly, Satan is convincing many believers to look the other way and follow their dreams instead of God’s.

Being in the Word, provides a source of strength for dealing with the everyday occurrences’ that will come your way.  Proverbs 7 continues on to say: “Keep my commandments and live, And my teaching as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart”  In following this teaching we are capable of drawing from that wisdom, that strength when we are faced with tempting opportunities.  Within you is God’s Holy Spirit, and His strength is immeasurable by any worldly standards.  You have the ability to call on Him, draw from Him and use His wisdom as your armor when you are faced with life’s temptings.  He is your rock and your fortress in these times.  Do not be swayed by the evil ways of this world my brothers and sisters.
