Cover Me

“for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones” – Proverbs 2:8

Doors slide closed, children at her feet.  Shopping cart is full as is the parking lot laid out in front of her.  Within the mosaic of cars, SUVs and Mini-vans is her small sedan, a little aged and showing the wear and tear equal to her life as a single mother.  Kids dancing around the cart, teasing and laughing with one another, oblivious to their surrounding environment.  As she pushes the cart into the parking lot a car comes around the corner and accelerates, unaware of the potential collision about to happen.  Mother immediately senses the risk and puts herself between the oncoming car and her family, herding them together between her and the cart.  Staring down the driver as they speed by without a care of what might have just been a tragedy.

A father wipes his eyes as the night draws on.  The road has carried his family for well over 15 hours this day and another 2 or 3 lie ahead to get safely home.  A glance in the rearview mirror shows the angelic faces of his beautiful sleeping children, and his wife has succumbed to sleep.  He takes another drink of his coffee and focuses on keeping the SUV between the lines.  While they have confidently placed their trust in him, his only objective has become guiding his family over the road conditions and hazards hidden around the next turn.  Resting one hand upon his bible and the other on his steering wheel, he places his trust in the Light of the World to strengthen his weariness.  The driveway eventually welcomes the family home, and one by one the children are carried to their warm welcomed beds.

God walks with His children.  We are oblivious to the daily protection that He shields us with.  Seconds count when a major accident happens and you are just ahead of it, behind it or in it.  A spilled cup of coffee may have delayed your drive to work just enough to avoid hitting a passing deer or dog on the route to the office.  A cold winter storm may cause you to see that young lady shivering under the bridge by the interstate with enough compassion to stop and spend a moment telling her about Jesus over a warm cup of coffee.  Understand that God is working the events in our life into a patchwork quilt across billions of people at one time.  The effect of one thing happening in your life has a ripple effect through the lives of others, which often times is unbeknownst to either party.  Life is a series of events and only God the Father has the view from end to end.  He is our great protector as we bend through the curves of life.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You are sovereign and omniscient in this world and the next.  All things are known to You in all ways.  We trust in Your protective shield and we are secure in an understanding that You are in control.  Guide my feet to follow Your path and open the doors for spreading Your truth.  I will follow You.  - Amen
